May + Lawrence Vail

Towards the end of the movie, when they met on the train, I thought that May (Aline MacMahon) was going to wind up with the playwright Lawrence Vail (Onslow Stevens). And I still think they should have gone off together. They had so much in common. They're the two smartest people around, they're both fed up with Hollywood and ready to leave, and they seem to like each other. Why should May go back to Jerry, and to the movie world she plainly doesn't like? Jerry sure didn't come off as much of a prize.
