Burnt Offerings (1976)

Roderick Femm says that Saul wanted to burn down the house as a "burnt offering" and this reminded me of the '70s film starring Karen Black and Oliver Reed. Interestingly, that film also has an elderly character that's bedridden in an upstairs room. Does anyone know if there's a connection between the films? It seems like too much of a coincidence not to be connected.
