Two things I found particularly creepy in this movie

1. Sir Roderick being played by a woman (with what is clearly a woman's voice), yet the characters who meet him don't seem to notice this or at least don't acknowledge it. Just a wonderfully surreal touch that I found strangely chilling and weird.

2. Saul's speech about fire being like cold blades. Pure insanity. I'd have run out into the storm if I found myself stuck in a dark house with that guy.

(By the way, when Saul threw the knife at Roger's head and barely missed with it sticking in the chair, that looked completely real and very dangerous.)

I really enjoyed this movie...I've had a copy of it in a stack of movies I've been meaning to watch for years but hadn't gotten around to, I'm glad I finally gave it a whirl last night.

Saul was superbly insane. I loved every second that he was on the screen. His expressions, mannerisms, and overall affect were acted to the extent that one really believes him to be a murderous pyromaniac.

Did you catch the parallel between Saul’s talk of the flame being cold and Roger’s comment about the cold light of day? Couple that with Saul’s speech about how they are alike and I’m sure that it is not coincidental. I’m not sure what it means, but I found it odd.

The Sir Roderick scene brought an intense eeriness to the film. That was a very well done, atmospheric scene that you just don’t see in new movies. Much more effective than any startling music that passes for horror nowadays.
