George Raft character is obnoxious, not enough Mae West

I think it hurts a film when the lead character we're supposed to root for is so arrogant. The Iris character was even worse. This film definitely showed the uglier social side of life in the 1930s, since it was based around a speakeasy owner and gangsters. A long way off from normal suburban life, small town life, or even city people who stayed away from the speakeasy side of life in that era. I liked Constance Cummings. Mae West was a very secondary character here. She doesn't come out into her own like "I'm no angel", "Go west young man", "On the town", and others.
