What do you think of this movie?

It reminded me a little of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and Metropolis. IDK why, but it did.

It reminds me of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, not quite as good though.

Still fun to watch.

Not quite as good is a gross understatement.... This movie is terrible. As one of the other posters pointed out... the only good thing in this is the Photography by genius Karl Freund. I will also add that the sets are great too.... but EVERYTHING else in this film is terrible. This may be Lugosi's worst performance... his best, being either The Black Cat or The Invisible Ray.

The weird sets and distorted backdrops were very Caligari-like.

I enjoyed this film for its hammy performance by Bela Lugosi and for all its grotesquerie—from the killer ape, to the fog-enshrouded knife fight, to the prostitute tied to the cross. Its script isn't too bad, but all the comedy relief falls flat. Leon Ames is a good actor, but he's the wrong type to play a young student. He already seems very paternal—ready to play the kind of fatherly roles he's remembered for.

I loved this movie. I thought it was a great reflection of german expression films (caligari & Metropolis) and I thought It was one of Bela's better if not best Performences.

It reminds me of how much I loved Arlene Francis. I grew up watching her on Game SHows on Tv... this was her first acting job... she was pretty, funny AND smart.
