I Think It's a Great Love Story
Im-Ho-Tep went through a lot of *rap, over a long period of time, to be with the Princess. I think, along with the likes of King Kong, he's one of cinema's most misunderstood heroes.

Nah, Im-Ho-Tep is a villain because he is heartless and obsessed. Willing to kill any that attempt to spoil his plans.
Also, I don't think he had the Princess Anck-es-en-Amon's permission to be re-incarnated. I don't believe that was her idea at all.
In many regards, he is a madmen that defied the Gods and death for love.
He is selfish and megalomanical.
Do you have to open graves to find girls to fall in love with?
I don't think i'd call him a hero, with the number of innocent people he killed or tried to kill just for being in his way. But I did find him slightly sympathetic, since all he wanted was to be with the woman he loved and it's kind of understandable that he'd be pissed off about being buried alive and having to wait 3,700 years to have a chance at being with her again. Basically he got a raw deal all along. Not that I think that makes everything ok, just that I found it to be a mitigating factor. He wasn't sadistic and wanting to harm others for the heck of it.
shareThank you, Kawada_Kira. That's exactly how I feel. Have you ever seen Bram Stoker's Dracula? Vlad got sort of the same deal.

along with "The Creature From The Black Lagoon"
so many movies, so little time
Thanks for the heads-up, prplayer...embarrassed to say I've never seen it!

True, Imhotep loved the princess very deeply. But I also agree that he was also just a little bit obsessed. But why attempt to kill Helen/the princess if he loves her so much, and why burn the mummy?
shareYes, it reminds me a bit of House of Dark Shadows which has a similar story; only with a vampire instead of a mummy. Both films are excellent love stories. I'm usually not into romance but they are two of the rare exceptions.
shareI appreciate your comment, ElectricWarlock. Doomed love. Feel the same way about Ryder's and Oldman's characters in "Bram Stoker's Dracula".
