perfect length actually. a movie based on a short story doesn't need to be more than an hour long.

I actually think this is one of the most perfectly paced thrillers of all time. Heck, more modern movies would be IMPROVED by being only an hour long.

Most b-movie thrillers of the period were around the 1 hour ten-twenty mark, and I feel that was perfect. This is a tremendously effective movie, tense and thrilling and even sad, and the pacing is spot-on imo.

It's a short movie that feels longer
