One of my favorite Betty Boop cartoons. In comparison to the great Warner shorts of the 1940s and '50s, this is short on plot development, and, as many other Fleischers, it ends with a dumb chase. But so many great moments, especially the retroscoped Cab Calloway ghost dance.
Many of the Betty Boop cartoons (prior to the Production Codes of 1934) are weird. People often remark if the cartoonists were on acid or other hallucinogenic drugs. As far as anyone knows, they weren't, but they often did add some, shall we say, interesting details, to their cartoons of the time.
It wasn't only the Betty Boop cartoons that were weird at this period. Lots of dancing skeletons and other macabre stuff does appear in others in the early 1930s. And a lot of the jazz tunes were in a kind of Halloween mood then as well. But I must say that this Betty Boop is spooky.
