Recently restored, so how about a DVD?

MASK OF FU MANCHU has recently had several minutes of material restored to it, footage not seen in decades, and is currently enjoying a limited theatrical reissue. Let's hope this means a DVD in the near future.

One should add that the restoration is not all that recent; it actually took place in the '90s for the MGM Horror Classics laserdisc box set.

As for the print seen in theatres in 2005, that was not complete. Hopefully, the DVD was not made from this but from the laserdisc print, which featured all the famous deleted scenes.

The DVD is is uncut version. You can tell the scenes have been added as they are significantly less in quality than the rest of the film. Far more grainy and damaged.

so what scenes were restored?

i just watched this film and thought it was great - better than Karloff's The Mummy.

Part or all of the whipping scene were cut for various countries/US states.

The extracting of the poison from the spiders and snakes and injection of the serum into Terry's neck

Nayland Smith in the Bell Torture (although some version have the scene but the dialogue is edited..like when Karloff says "You will be hungry, thirsty..you will be unspeakably foul..but here you will remain..day after day until you talk"

The commentary that comes with the new restored version (as part of the Hollywoods Horror Legends vol 1 box set) is very infornative and points out everything that was cut at one point or another

so what scenes were restored?

Watch the DVD with the commentary track...he'll tell you about every inch that was restored: what was taken out or left in, by who and when.

He says there were even places that would play a specific edit with even fewer "horror" aspects on Sundays.
