Undoubtedly worse for starlets

The cynic in me kept waiting for reference to the casting couch.

1932 was early enough that this film may have been a true reflection of how difficult it must have been for struggling artists with stars in their eyes.

But I strongly suspect it was considerably worse for the starlets, not the men, as this film portrays.

Actually this movie is very similar to one called Show People starring Marion Davies. It's the female version and I think it's based, in part, on Gloria Swanson's rise to fame (or one of those early starlets). It's a much broader story but the start of that movie is similar to 'Make me a star' but from the female perspective. I guess it wasn't an uncommon story in those days. This story is shorter, much sadder, is a talkie, and was made about four years after Show People.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]

Thank you for mentioning this. I think I have seen it, but I can't remember. Worth (re)viewing either way. Thank you. :)
