Funny Double Meanings

The dialogue of this movie is filled with funny double meanings for words and phrases. You have to listen really close to get them all.

Even though this was a pre-Code film, the censors probably did order removal of suggestive material that they considered extremely offensive. That would explain why the running time of the original is listed as longer than the 89 minutes on the current DVD release.

This sound recording was very good for 1932, probably due to Mamoulian's creativity, but Chevalier's French accent was a little too strong for all his words to be understood.
