Delightful discovery

I'd never heard of this story even through it has a well used title. I truly enjoyed this romance and found it somewhat surprising: the pre-Code sexual ethics, the solid honesty of the 2 leads, the understated and effective performance of Humphrey Bogart, and the amazing work by an actress I'd never seen before, Dorothy Mackaill. She was terrific, a model for all strong women in the movies of the '30's. A great discovery!

I agree, I have this on VHS & I was curious to see a young Bogart in a early romantic leading role. He was very good looking when he was young like a matinee idol. An interesting revelation & insight into Bogie's early acting career.

Dorothy Mackaill was a wonderful presence, and it's unfortunate that she's not better known. Look for Kept Husbands, which is all over YT (it's in the public domain) and Safe in Hell (very depressing but worth seeing). Also, Warner Archive released five more of her movies on DVD in 2011 and 2012.

I stumbled upon this movie on this movie at 6 am in the morning. I was intrigued to watch a baby faced Bogart play a type of character different from those he became famous for (a little crooked around the edges but mainly a good guy with a good heart).

This positively infantile preoccupation with bosoms!Terry-Thomas about US 1963.Hasnt changed much!
