Life begins?

This is a rather clunky and quaint period piece about a hospital maternity ward. It's billed as a drama, but a kind of nudge-nudge, wink-wink comedy prevails. An early sound film with a noisy, hollow sound track, and the occasional unexplained thump. Acting is about average for the era. (Was everyone given elocution lessons to accommodate the new sound films? Everyone sounds so pretentious, saying "gehhhl" rather than "girl".)

I think this was meant to be kind of daring in its time. Efficient and rather hard-hearted nurses pace around in their starched caps, and men make fools of themselves while the women try to be brave. I saw this on Turner Classic Movies - don't know where else it might turn up. Worth seeing once, as a curiosity.

The acting is horrible. I just caught the ending with the young man findingout thathis wife died. While givingbirth..........and he was just terrible. Its as he was enunciating every syllable the way a singer would while singing.. But like you pointed out, maybe this was groundbreaking at the time..lol
