A jewel

I couldn't take my eyes off of this film. The hair, the clothes, the interiors. No glamour like the late 20's, early 30's of Hollywood. A jewel of a film and Ms. Bennett is stunning.

Just be truthful and if you can fake that you've got it made. ;)

I agree. I watched it on TCM the other day but can't bear to erase it from my DVR. The clothes were breathtaking - I wish I could sew because if I did, I'd copy all the costumes Constance wore (but with fake fur, not real). I loved watching the development of Venice from social bore to woman with a mystique.

I just saw it on TCM for the first time and loved it. Next time I'll have to record it. It was my first time seeing Constance Bennett, as far as I know. Very beautiful and talented.

Cheese fries...next time.

I loved it too. The only aspect that I would find fault with was the notion of the fabulous Constance Bennett as a wallflower that men treated with indifference. She looked drop-dead gorgeous in those early scenes!

To a new world of gods and monsters!

Am I the only one that was disappointed she ended up with David Manners? He was such a jerk and she had tremendous chemistry with Ben Lyon. I was hoping BL's character was heading west for a divorce. Other than that, I have to say it is my favorite Constance Bennett--so far. In some of her earlier films, she's very theatrical in her mannerisms in some scenes. In this film, she was a delight throughout.

I'm with you: LOVE this movie, start to finish - everything about it. Hopefully it'll become available in a US compatible DVD release at some point.

I just saw this film on Monday and I loved it until the last ten minutes, talk about a plot twist. I really wanted her and Ben Lyons to end up together, but considering the amount of attention given to David Manners' character, it doesn't surprise me that they ended up together in the film. Very enjoyable and fun film.
