According to Robert Osbourne (TCM host), when this movie was first broadcast back in the early thirties, there were viewers who actually wrote letters to the studio, asking where they could procure cigarettes such as the ones portrayed in the film. lol
*edit: "Where can I get some of those cigarettes, that make you all silly?" is an example of the type of letters the studio would receive, according to Osborne's commentary.

Always loved this movie. It's full of sex, drugs, and thievery. Too bad Will Hays had to spoil all the fun.

shareI always smile when I watch this movie. Amusingly, marijuana was not illegal when this was made. Just frowned upon by the church and "high-morals" crowd. Sorta back to the future some 70 years later...
