Terrific film

I just saw this picture (on Fire Island!) and I gotta say that Tallulah is pretty damn wonderful in it.

Robert Montgomery. ROBERT MONTGOMERY. Adorable, and real.

To summarize, check this out if you can. It's a great Pre-Code classic.

He was real, genuine...all his roles reflect this quality. Of course he was adorable and the father to Elizabeth! :)

It was very touching. I was quite surprised at how good a film it was. Bankhead was great, as was Montgomery!

The film was all right, would have been better if Tallulah had allowed herself to actually LOOK like her character was struggling, but "Carol" was always made up, her penciled-on eyebrows never straggly, always had perfect lipstick and her false eyelashes in place. I'm sorry, but if you are standing in a soup line and so hungry that you (and the poor lady in back of you) are ready to collapse, you would hardly look like you are ready to go to a night club. I felt Carol was stupid, too; before bolting from her "kept woman" accommodations, she should have slipped some of those jewels into her purse and hocked them, then maybe she wouldn't have suffered so much. Oh, well, that's just my opinion. Not sure how old Miss Bankhead was in this film, but I'm sure she was no 24-year-old! LOL!
