Seems like the last I checked, there were no comment! I've always been surprised that this film has not generally been considered an early masterpiece. Ecstasy is very erotic, but the subject matter was handled in a veryartistic manner. Unusal camera shots, sensitive imagery, and very subtle low-key performances, are all well done. As I long ago noted, in my review of the film, it does have many properties of a silent movie, which was not a point of distraction for me; it only made it more visually exciting. I think Hedy gave a very sensitive performance, and this movie shows that she was able to respond to superior direction. This movie definitely was more arty than its sensationalized reputation might suggest.

I would be happy to discuss more aspects of this film, if you are interested.

I agree. I think this film is a masterpiece. Very sensual. Beautiful artistry. None of the summaries mention the baby at the end. Does the Adam character realize he's fathered a child? A loose end or two that I didn't resolve in my head. She looks undaunted by the child, very happy, so there is no moralistic bad things happen ending. Ultimately, it's a lovely ending.

I was hoping that he had an opportunity, to work in a foreign country just to take care of his family, Hedy and baby. These images of her, with the baby, seem to be in his head. So I prefer to believe that he was just longing to be with his family, and those facial expressions were just reflections.

I think the images are in his head but, IMO, they are of what might have been. It seemed to me that she boarded the train going in the opposite direction of the one had just asked about (to Berlin) and that he wanted to board with her.

Another possiblity is that she committed suicide a la Anna Karenina while he was sleeping.
