Oh Ronnie!!

I was doing very well through this film until Ronald ... Well ...

... met his end.
That was so very sad but, dare I say, I saw it coming. Made it all the sadder.

He was the only one of the children that stood behind Emma. He never thought of her as a "housekkeper" but as a Mother. Ceetainly, the others came to see her this way at the end of the movie as well but the way they treated her before that was deplorable!

Anyway -- this was a WONDERFUL film. Certaily one of those you can honestly say: "They don't make them like that anymore."

Marie Dressler was a wonderful actress!!

I love this movie. Marie Dressler was never better and Richard Cromwell is so wonderful in it, too.

What a beautiful little film. I first saw it about 15 years ago, and always vowed I'd watch it again next time I saw it was airing. My patience was rewarded when it came on TCM (where else?!!) a couple of nights ago. I taped it this time.

I cried my eyes out during the last 15 minutes. Esp. the last scene w/the new baby...
Oh...my...God.
I used so many Kleenex's, I wished I had bought stock in the company prior to watching this film.

Dressler was so perfect, I'd be hard-pressed to name another actress as capable as she of doing justice to the role of Emma.
WOW.

(On a lighter note, I died laughing at the corset bit at the train station. Without spoiling it, just check out/keep your eye on 'the guy' as the shot moves away from him and pans over a bit as Emma and Mr. Smith walk toward the camera. Absolutely Priceless!)

I recorded it and just watched it today. I cried, too! It was a beautiful little film. I wish I had an Emma in my life!

I was channel surfing and came across this. I've always liked Marie Dresler and I was just so impressed with how fresh and natural she came across as the nurse. Such a difference from the saccarine and somewhat artificial feeling that many later MGM films had. Her humor was great, I found myself chuckling out loud at her one liners.
