Just think at where movies would be now if the Hayes Office hadn't stepped in three years later!

She was spectacular. I would have cast my Oscar ballot for her as best actress as well.

It's a shame that Miriam faded out so fast in the 30's. I could see her becoming a Joan Crawford type in middle age, had she hung on. (Take that as you will.)
I think the last thing I saw her in (and she was GREAT!) was an episode of the original Outer Limits, "Do Not Open Till Doomsday," which, by the by, was also one of the most sexually kinky and perverse things you'll ever see from early 60's television. One of the series' (many) great episodes.
She is great in that episode. She had quite a rivalry with Bette Davis when they were young (Bette slept with her husband), it's interesting seeing Miriam's take on a 'Baby Jane' type role.

I never saw the movie, but just watched her mini bio on Age of Vintage. That clip was very racy for 1930's audience. She could have been topless versus naked, or had pasties.I have to check the movie out.
