WOW! An astonishingly bad film!

I'm a sucker for an early thirty's film. I like everything about a good film with a decent cast. I expected an enjoyable "curl up on the couch with popcorn" time with this film. But the script was poorly written - the story would simply jump from one point of view to another with no warning, so the story sometime, although simple, appeared complicated and confusing. The only fun I had was in watching Ruth Chatterton and George Brent, two actors I appreciate, slog bravely through the mud of stilted dialogue. They were either poorly directed, silently protesting having to be in this film, or just didn't care at ALL about this film or their performances in it.
