Chandu The Magician (1932)

I would love to buy a copy of this movie. Can anyone tell me where I can find one?

reply

This film can be obtained from Sinister Cinema. It should be noted that their copy is a bit washed out and blurry in spots. But it's a 1930s gem well worth having.

Wait until Fall for the Fox release. I saw Chandu the Magician on the Fox Movie Channel and the print looked in great shape.

From Fangoria:
Fango has learned some details about a couple of DVD boxed sets compiling genre fare from the ’30s, ’40s and ’50s, set for release sometime this fall. Coming from Fox Home Entertainment is a collection of thrillers that have never been available on video before, including: William Cameron (INVADERS FROM MARS) Menzies and Marcel Varnel’s CHANDU THE MAGICIAN (1932), with commentary by horror historian Gregory Mank; John Brahm’s Jack the Ripper opus THE LODGER (1944), with commentary by critic Richard Schickel; Brahm’s HANGOVER SQUARE (1945), another killer thriller, with commentary by historian Steve Haberman; the werewolfilm THE UNDYING MONSTER (1942), once again helmed by Brahm; and Fritz Lang’s Hitler-assassination drama MAN HUNT (1941).

I heard that there is a Ray Harryhausen documentary on this DVD, titled "Masters of Magic: The World of Chandu" . Is that confirmed? If so, where may I purchase it? I want it with the Ray Harryhausen documentary. Thank you.

Ray Harryhausen is one of several people who discuss the film in the short documentary. It's on the Fox Cinema Classics collection DVD I got from Netflix, which is a very good print.
