Does anybody have any thoughts on the ending? Which girl did Marvin choose? It seemed that the director wanted it to be up in the air--Marvin will always be torn between the two worlds. But just the same it almost looks as if Marvin gave more of a smile to the peckerwood girl.

That's what I thought- he went with the peckerwood girl.
Screwed up his chance to get out of the peckerwood life, and really do something for them.
