One of the most beautiful shots I've seen.

Towards the end of the film, there's a low angle long shot of a band playing and a woman standing alone near them. The camera slowly moves back and reveals a river with various boats and people in it. The camera is in a boat and it moves in and out of focus almost hypnotically. This has to be one of the most beautiful shots I've seen.

Indeed, a beautiful shot.My favorite shot is the one that shows Boudu dining with Lestingois very far from the camera as it slowly moves, reveals new spaces in the house. In 1932 that was probably an extraordinary shot.

This is probably the shot you're talking about : https://streamable.com/o183

Agreed. Especially the first bit up until the waterline is first seen. Very impressionistic and crude (stylistically speaking - no doubt difficult to achieve c.1932) like the sort of footage that you would expect to find in someone's silent home movies from the period.

Yes, I thought so as well. Couldn't help but be reminded of the last shot of Thin Red Line.
