I saw this movie twice in two different classes. Even when viewed in different contexts each time (1. Film Industry: Hay's Code, 2. Film theory: Psychoanalysis) it always impressed me so much as it is amazing and absolutely stunning.

shareI agree this is a great film. I don't see it as Dietrich's best performance. I think she had yet to really find her flair, but von Sternberg worked beautifully with her and still made her shine.
It really was a good film, start-to-finish. An interesting maternal melo-drama with wonderful images and fine acting!
i agree 100% one of my all time favs as well
