Rate Leni Riefenstahl's Films

As director, of course...

Please rate the films you've seen (out of 10, or 4-stars system, or 'from best to worst'), post/add your comments, recommendations, etc. ANY feedback very welcome and much appreciated. Thanks for your participation.

My humble 'impressions' (rates) are added, as usual.

Complete filmography (she obviously deserves that):

Impressionen unter Wasser (Underwater Impressions, 2002, doc)
Tiefland (Lowlands, 1954) 7.5/10
Olympia 2. Teil - Fest der Schönheit (Olympia Part Two: Festival of Beauty, 1938, doc) 9/10
Olympia 1. Teil - Fest der Völker (The Olympiad, 1938, doc) 9/10
Triumph des Willens (Triumph of the Will, 1935, doc) 9/10
Tag der Freiheit - Unsere Wehrmacht (Day of Freedom, 1935, doc, sh) 9/10

Yay! This looks very promising. Where have you seen it, Bruno?
Just read about its history (it's a miracle that - a single copy, apparently - the film survived). Since you saw both is it true that 'Triumph des Willens' is some sort of a 'remake' (since this one was destroyed Adolf needed another film)?

Thank you very much for your feedback. I really need to see everything she ever made. She was a wonder (saying that she was a natural just doesn't cut it )!

Nice to see that I'm not the only one who loves Tag der Freiheit, I really think it's a little underrated gem.

I would love to see Tiefland by the way, but can't find it :(

Thank you very much for your rates, much appreciated.

Really nice to see someone (finally) found this thread. It's completely beyond me how underappreciated (underseen?) Leni (THE Mistress of Cinema in my book) is.

Also glad we completely agree on so many of her films. Yay!

Nice to see that I'm not the only one who loves Tag der Freiheit, I really think it's a little underrated gem.

Yep yep. Like so many others, if I may say so (but true, this one seems to be the most 'underrated' (underseen probably)).

I would love to see Tiefland by the way, but can't find it :(

Same here, of course. It used to be on TPB (and SM, I guess) a few years ago, but since I wanted to do her filmography in chronological order I passed the opportunity to see it back then. And now my torrenting days are gone so it may remain unseen for many years to come (or worse forever).

Leni Riefenstahl is also the best female director in my opinion.
Lets hope we will be able to see Tiefland some day!

Thank you for this threat, I'm a great admirer of Ms Riefenstahl amazing talent - of course I'm only talking about art and not propaganda.

I will only rate films I saw, waiting to discover Tiefland (dvd will arrive, I cannot wait !), Ein Traum von Afrika and also the two doc. - Tag der Freiheit and Der Sieg des Glaubens - that I just received.

1) Olympia : 10/10 - an absolute work of art, fascinating and unique.
2) Impressionen unter Wasser : 10/10 - simply poetry under water, magic.
3) Triumph des Willens : 9/10 - awfully magnificent, the most effective propaganda movie ever because of its powerful beauty and fascination.
4) Das Blaue Licht : 9/10 - superb mountains'poetry, already Reifenstahl's masterful art of lights and esthetism.
