Music
I'm watching this for the first time and immediately noticed the similarity between the music used during the opening credits to that of Little Women. Sure enough, Max Steiner composed both.
Now I'm hearing King Kong. :)
You are right, not only the sets and locations but the even the music (and the main plot to some extent) reminded me of King Kong. I was commenting that with a friend of mine who also watched the movie.
