Well, it's most certainly not as bad as one might think, it's ably directed by King Vidor, one of the greatest and most revolutionary filmmakers of the 1920s and there's some impressive cinematographer that favors alternating low-and high-angle shots, a plentiful of beautiful and erotic sequences and gorgeous underwater photography. Therefore, there's a lot more to Bird of Paradise than just seeing the breathtakingly gorgeous Dolores Del Rio in lack of clothing. It's the first film with a full symphonic score as well and there's some rather touching moments, especially when the injured McCrea requests water and Del Rio can't figure out how to work the modern appliances in his ship and though the story seems pretty tired and this isn't even half as good as F.W. Murnau's brilliant Tabu, Bird of Paradise is definitely worth a watch, at least as a milestone in the history of film.
shareI went into the film not knowing any of that stuff and I still liked it quite a bit. I had no idea there was such a history connected to the film!
shareIsn't there a ratings section at the top of the entry for this film for you to post a rating? More like a 7 out of ten just for the "pre-code eroticism".

I usually watch a film at least twice before I put a rating on it. (Other times I just forget - but I've only seen this once so far.)
