I'm missing something

It seems like it. Edmund Gwenn borrows Quinn's Maltese Cross ring, puts it on & socks Ned Pendleton on the jaw. EG then has the medical examiner compare the bruise on NP's jaw with the evidence photo of Val. The two bruises match up so everyone concludes that Quinn is the murderer. Quinn has no reaction to any of this which was pretty weird.
