Why did Barbara marry Eddie?

She was in love with him for some unknown reason.

Like Barbra Stanwyck says to her husband when she finally finds out he is a low life creep."what difference does it make where I got the money" "Your a,a thief and a coward."your not a man your not even a good sample"I loved every movie Barbra Stanwyck made.She had "It"which a lot of phony actors and actresses don't have today.

She was attracted to him because at the boarding house he was gentle and pleasant while she was used to all those crude characters at the dancehall thinking they could paw her at the cost of a dime. Ultimately, she learned he was spineless, weak, and untrustworthy but she wasn't exposed to this side of him until months into the marriage.
