This unusual Murnau film has many beautiful scenes. So what's your favorite?

I think the scene when the Pearl diver that dives at the Tabu spot and is eaten by the shark is just beautiful. So simple but still so powerful. Excellent visual storytelling. I wonder if Spielberg saw it before he made Jaws.

But my favorite shot would be the one where Hitu cuts the rope. It's so shocking, so Ice-cold and terribly cruel. I also love that Murnau does not cut in to closeup after that and keeps Reri ignorant of the tragedy happening just meters away from her. Pure genius.

I think when Matahi and Reri are dancing is my favorite. You can tell they are really in love by the way they are looking into their eyes. Thao's description is beautiful. Spot on!
I just watched Tabu for the first time yesterday & loved it. I can't believe I'm the first reply in over five years.

It is a very underrated film, which is maybe the reason why so few comment :)
