Forget the reviews, give this one a shot!

You could do a lot worse with 68 minutes than watch this one. If you like don't movies from the thirties, you won't like this but if you do, you're in for a treat. Nobody did these better than Warners in the early thirties, and you have William Wellman directing.

Usually I more or less try to avoid early talkies. Because William Wellman directed this one, I thought I'd give it a chance. And I'm glad I did; it's a wonderful movie, with a good mix of comedy and drama. And it doesn't suffer from a lot of technical problems many other early talkies do.

I disagree. There are SO may films from the early 1930's that are much better than this one. But then, my opinion is colored by the fact that I dislike Charles Chic Sale.

I love old movies; silent movies, early talkies, later talkies, and this movie included. It has a great message wrapped in an interesting, heartwarming story. I like the whole family but Grandpa is my favorite by far. He made a lot of sense and was fun to watch.

It was interesting to me that when Grandpa spoke of Abraham Lincoln, he was referring to a period in history that was more recent to the people in 1931 than 1931 is for us. It's no wonder most people seemed to still have values and understood what this country stands. Today most people seem to value a lot of nonsense; things that will, in the long run, hurt rather than help us as a people.
