youngest winner of best director in oscar history!

Is this movie worthy to see, because its director's fame?

This movie is VERY worth seeing for far more reasons than the director. Jackie Cooper may be the best of the best child stars from the 30's.

Yeah, but where the hell do you get a copy of this movie?

I just watched a DVR from Movie Madness in Portland, OR... apart from that I have no idea where to get it.

It is currently being restored so I would think this year some time.

I saw a most decidedly non-restored version of "Skippy", and found it simple and cute, even endearing. But its astounding to me that Norman Taurog should have received the Best Director Oscar for this, even accounting for changing times. He beat out von Sternberg for "Morocco" and Lewis Milestone for "The Front Page", among others, and both the film itself and Jackie Cooper were nominated. Now, whatever charms the film possesses, and it does, these nominations, and certainly Taurog's win, are head scratchers to me, with only Cooper's being arguable warranted. What did Taurog do that was so great? Work with child actors and dogs? Why not just give the Best Director Oscar to the guy churning out Our Gang comedies? Like I said, its a cute film and Cooper did a fine job carrying it, with Mitzi Green and Jackie Searl quite funny as his annoying neighborhood playmates, but its no masterpiece!

You may not think the movie is worthy but enough of the Academy members thought it was good enough to earn their vote. As far as I know the Directors category is voted on only by other directors. Watching the movie, maybe they could appreciate what went into making it in a way a non-director might not.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]
