Great Movie ... Lots of Chemistry!
I challenge the original poster of the first thread to a duel ("Not a Good Movie ... But Good Chemistry")! Ha!
I loved this movie. What a powerful punch it packed in 1 hour, 15 minutes. Note: Spoilers follow.
There was a realism about it, and a tenderness among all the characters that was surprising. I've watched a lot of movies from this era where people seemed to be a bit hardened, calling each other "mugs" and "Toots" -- which is cool and funny, LOL, but this movie was a departure.
I loved that Marian was in possession of her own destiny (or tried to be), even if some thought of her as Mark's "possession." At times, I was tempted to think of Mark as a cad for not marrying her, but he was emotionally damaged from a prior marriage. I guess all cards were on the table, so both Marian and Mark knew the deal.
BUT, I was glad that Mark defended her, and was actually incredulous when Marian broke it off with him. He knew he was losing someone who was worthwhile.
Also, I liked Marian's integrity. Even though she didn't wish to marry Al, she was never mean about it -- just honest about what she wanted, and not willing to settle. Kudos to her. I'm not advocating golddigging per se, but Mark was never mislead. She told him upfront that she couldn't waste time with him if he wasn't rich. Of course, this was conveyed with a brand of forthright innocence that Mark probably found refreshing. It was certainly amusing to watch.
N-E-waaaay ... I give it two thumbs up (one on each hand)!
