Night Nurse is my favorite Barbara Stanwyck movie! Am I the only one?
Yes, I love Double Indemnity, and I recognize that, objectively, it's head and shoulders above Night Nurse. But I love those quick and dirty early 1930s movies and Night Nurse is one of my favorites! Missy and Joan Blondell and scary Clark Gable! I DVRed it a while back and I haven't deleted it yet because I know I'll watch it again and again.
I love Baby Face almost as much. "Who played the piano?" "Anybody that had a nickel!" The way she delivers that line! Oh boy! You can tell it's not a happy memory!
Double Indemnity, on the other hand, is a great movie, but it's kind of eclipsed by several other crime thrillers from the same time period that I like better: Murder My Sweet, The Big Sleep and Mildred Pierce all come to mind.
It's been a few years since I saw Double Indemnity. Maybe I'll change my mind if I ever see it again.
