I liked how someone could walk straight in from off the street, into the actual ER, and a nurse would take them directly, and immediately start looking after them. Weren't those the days?!

And the way that a nurse could start treating patients at a hospital with absolutely no medical training whatsoever. (Yes, she is studying for her nursing degree while she works at the hospital, but when she first starts she has absolutely no education or experience-- just a doctor who's a little attracted to her.)

How is this any different from today when you go to a doctor and the physician's assistant, who has less training and is learning, does everything?

Actually, for ten years that was exactly our experience in an overseas US military hospital.... and also occurred about 17 years ago in a different military hospital.
