This film is a remake or has been remade (spoilers)

TCM shows another film where a woman is on trial but won't tell the court why she shot a man in cold blood. For the life of me I can't think of its name or who played the leads. I do remember the setting is another country and I think at the beginning its stated the story is based on a real case. Her secret is that she found out an old lover who she wrecked her marriage over is now making love to her young daughter. Years ago her husband through her out over the relationship and told his young daughter her mother was dead and he remarried. Unwilling to ruin her daughter's life to save her own she won't speak up in court. Luckily the court finds out the truth without the daughter, who is in court, finding out she's her mother.

Unlike the above story , in this one the daughter testifies and saves her mother's life.

I think the film you're thinking of is "Confession," with Kay Francis, Basil Rathbone and Jane Bryan.

There are other films in which a woman is on trial but won't tell the court why she shot a man in cold blood -- in these films, she's protecting her son, who she had to abandon as a child. One is Irene Dunne in "The Secret of Madame Blanche" -- and then there are various versions of "Madame X." All are shown on Turner Classic Movies now and then.
