I noticed the sign around the guy who discovers the murderer is spelled 'blind'

Why does this surprise you? It's actually the same in Dutch.

Kind of. The "i" does not sound like "eye" like it does in English.

No, it would be a short vowel, and more of a "t" sound than a "d" as in English.
English is a Germanic language, so there are a lot of similar words.
