Crotch Shot
I know that angled shots are typically used to convey biased perception of characters but the shot of Detective Lohmann's crotch from under the desk while he's eating dinner just doesn't make sense to me. Someone explain?

shareI guess to make us feel disgusted in a way. He was never shown as charming or anything along those lines. Even the way he was eating his dinner was kind of disgusting. So even though he was a detective with a sense of power, you was in the end, just revolted by it.
shareyeah, his bulge was like IN YOUR FACE!. Too bad they hadn't invented 3D cinema yet, that would have been something
shareMaybe Lang was jealous... ;-)
shareFrom my knowledge... in many countries during this time period when they would take photographs of generals or people of very high level in the army in Europeon countries they would take the photo from very low like this.
"We are surrounded by worn-out images, and we deserve new ones"
- Werner Herzog
I agree that it was a little weird to all of a sudden have a sausage thrown in your face
shareI thought it was a really clever shot, although it seems a little weird. In the DVD commentary they said it was to make him seem gigantic. Also, he is at a low point in the investigation and is drinking "dishwater."

I thought that while it was on. Worst. Shot. Ever. It's almost broke my brain.
shareI'm thinking it's because Lang was trying to make Lohmann appear very relaxed and laid-back.
Either that or they dropped the camera.
