Flop?

Why was this movie a flop? I liked this movie and I thought there was nothing wrong with it.....does anyone think something is wrong with this movie?

It's a perfectly fine movie, with some clever songs. And Munson's performance is nicely hesitant. The movie more than likely flopped at the box office because at the time, the market was glutted with musicals and the public had had enough of basically filmed stage shows, many times with the best songs taken out. It would take 42nd Street three years later to bring something new to the film musical and renew the public's interest in them.

Eight years after the OP-Im watching the movie on TCM and find nothing wrong with it.Walter Pidgeon does a great job playing the casual snob. The supporting players on the work site, slinging hot riverts were fun to watch.

I just watched it on TCM and thought it was adorable. The romance was cute and I loved the dialogue ("hey babe"' "park your body"', et alia). I enjoyed the costumes; also to see working men riveting against a backdrop of what I can guess was NYC.

Ben Lyon was cute - I wouldn't mind seeing him outside my window, lol.
