Revisiting Frankenstein

I watched it again last night, and even with commercials and a comedian for a host the movie rocked, played as well as ever. It was the best print I've ever seen of Frankenstein on television. No complaints at my end.

A masterpiece. Acting not altogether flawless but generally good to excellent, with Karloff, Clive, Frye and Van Sloan all superb, and Mae Clarke very good. Ditto Frederick Kerr as the ancient baron, Lionel Belmore as the burgomeister, Michael Mark as the drowned Maria's father.

Fluid camerawork and quite a lot of action and movement for such an old movie. No background score, yet this somehow, for my money, has always enhanced the movie. The back lot recreation of Germany of a somewhat earlier time was outstanding.

Classic as it is, the film deserves more respect.

Thanks for posting. The movie is so old now that it's become flawless.
