Why is this NOT on DVD????

Nominated for an Oscar. Stars Robinson and features the pre-Frankenstein Karloff and Mr. Gower from It's a Wonderful Life and has a great point about yellow journalism (even though it goes melodramatic in the telling).

Why hasn't this found it's way onto DVD - even if it's in a collection???

Come on, already!

Actually - and I apologize for not coming back here and posting before - it is available now.

You can get it on the Warner Archive collection website. http://www.wbshop.com/Five-Star-Final/1000161721,default,pd.html

Unfortunately, like all of the stuff on there...it's pricey.

(this "website only" stuff is looking like "got them by the short hairs" like I feared)

I'm glad that Warner Archive and the like are making these older, off-the-beaten-path titles available, but $19.95 seems a ridiculous price to pay for a DVD-R. This archive pricing is still it its relative infancy, so maybe in a few years we'll see a bit of an adjustment there.

In the meantime, it's too bad a mass-market-type imprint hasn't picked up on some of these, but Warner isn't going to let them go that easily.

Check your local library. They might have movies like this in their collection. If they don't, let them know you're interested.

My library doesn't have this one (yet) but they do have others from the Warner Archive like "Gilda: Live", "The Verdict" (with Sidney Greenstreet and Peter Lorre) and lots of others.

Thanks for the tip. I actually have a very good public library near me, and I've found a lot of rare titles there – Criterion Collection stuff, out-of-print titles, and movies of questionable origin. Libraries are a great source for movies, music and of course books, and I'm constantly amazed at what I find there.

You were lucky to find "Gilda LIve," which I believe I bought for 99 cents when Hollywood Video sold its VHS stock. I haven't come across the 1946 "Verdict," just the Paul Newman film of the same title.
