The Ending (spoiler alert)

Talk about ambiguous! I did love it that Jack didn't come racing through the snow to say he'd had a change of heart. Clark Gable (best brother-in-law ever?) was reassuring that the reporter would be back, but I'm seeing a quiet job as a shop girl in her future.

I was very sad for Laura. She really did love Jack and he loved her but I sided with him. I'm a huge Robert Montgomery fan so I'm glad to see as Jack he was a decent guy but he wasn't a chump.

He was willing to accept her despite her past but once she met him and the fell in love going back to that lifestyle is a slap in his face. He was right. If you can't trust the person who claims to love you, what do you really have?

Too often in movies the characters will do anything for love, as some do in real life, but love can only take you so far. There also has to be respect and honesty in a relationship if it is to work. Even after going back to Brockton, if she had let Jack know he might have dealt with it better. He’d have probably still been upset but he would have suggested other things or had a friend lend her money so she could leave him.

It was nice that Nick, who had been so vocally against her for so long, showed her some compassion in the end. I suspect he did it mostly for his wife's sake. She loved her sister and was probably very sad not to have her in her life or even know what had become of her. Nick must have also respected the fact she left her sugar daddy Brockton even though Jack left her.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]

Very astute. I cringed when her friend talked her out of confessing all to Jack. I think he would have accepted under the circumstances. It was bound to come out at some time. It was just sooner than later. A wise man (or woman) once said "Always tell the truth. Then you never have to remember what you said."

OK...I hate it when people speculate on what would happen next (hence I hated Scarlet after Gone With the Wind), but do you think Jack did come back when he'd cooled off, or did her actions belie his perception of who she was?
