George Abbott vs. Cecil B. DeMille

Has anybody noticed that Abbott has remade two films by DeMille... The Cheat and Manslaughter?

reply

I've seen both versions of The Cheat, and I'll take DeMille's. It's too bad, though, we couldn't have taken Tallulah Bankhead (from the Abbott version) and Sessue Hayakawa (from the DeMille) and paired them up.

I've only seen DeMille's version of Manslaughter, and I didn't like it. It's phony and sanctimonious and not quite entertaining enough to make up for its hypocrisy.

I borrowed the silent classic from the library, but I never got a chance to see it. I have to take it out again.
