What do you mean by "extreme beginning"? What's the earliest part you saw in the movie?

The first bit I see, is when the boy looks through the fence (and sees a bar where they advertise a pitcher at 75 cents)

Dink asks his father not to drink before the interview he has scheduled later that day to explore making a boxing comeback. The Champ promises not to drink because the interview is so important to their future and then Dink spied him through the fence.
