Jacqueline or Yvette?

I never really got this about "Westfront 1918"...why does The Student call Yvette "Jacqueline"? Or is there some kind of discrepancy between the opening titles and the film itself? Maybe it's only the Student's naivety or ignorance...who knows.

Great film. I was a bit confused by this small detail, however. Anyone know any reason for that?
