Amazing

I just saw this film for the first time last night, what a great film to say the least. i especially liked near the end, the camera work, when they were digging in further ahead of the trenches to setup a Machine gun. What great realism, it actually put one in the war almost; as if you were following them.

Also, at times the camera didn't move from one spot. It was as if you were sitting there in a trench or foxhole watching as the battle developed in front of you. No wide angles, or sweeping vistas - just one small shot of the battle, not knowing what was going on except what you saw in front of you. It captured all the unknows and confusion of battle.

My one question, though, is why such a long scene during the German version of a USO show? The acts were interesting, but I'm not sure why it was so long.
