Priceless team-up: Bogart + Tracy

Tracy and Bogart together in the same film itself is unbelievable. However, with John Ford behind the camera, it seems unbeatable despite it being a very early talkie with obvious drawbacks. What is amazing is that the trademark onscreen mannerisms of both Humphrey Bogart and Spencer Tracy, which became so familiar to millions of moviegoers for generations, are already self-evident in this 1930 collaboration.

Bogart was a surprisingly handsome looking chap in his youth and is really the romantic lead of this film, with Tracy and Hymer as the character leads. Ford stock player, veteran Ward Bond is also on board this one. The sheer screen intensity which later defined the cinematic careers of Tracy and Bogart are fully manifested here in this early talkie. Those two were born screen superstars.
