I have not seen this film. Is there any truth to the story told by Kozsnarski in Von that Von Stroheim was able to convince Del Ruth to put in a lingerie scene showing two women peeking through a keyhole?

Two women peek through a keyhole. And lingerie is involved. I don't know what part Von Stroheim had in planning the scene.

...or what significance that scene has. He was unpacking a woman's bag and just looking at and handling her lingerie. Maybe it was considered naughty at the time but I didn't think it was particularly interesting or provocative.
