Why no DVD - how about TCM??

Saw this GREAT film years ago on cable (either AMC or TCM)> Does anyone have a copy to share or thoughts about it's potential for airing or issue on DVD?

TCM does not show this film because it is an early Paramount talkie and is thus the property of Universal Pictures. All Paramount talking films made from 1929-1949 belong to Universal with a very few exceptions. Universal has done very little with its early sound properties and likely will continue doing little. All that exists of this and several other outstanding early talking Paramount entries are the 16mm copies made for television that circulated in the pre-digital era. If TCM showed films in such a state I assure you they'd hear the howling all the way to Atlanta.

vintagefilmbuff.com has copies of this film. They actually do a decent job of cleaning up these old films in most cases, although it could not compare to a true restoration from the original elements as Warner Brothers (TCM's parent company) does with their old films.
