Konstantin Stanislavsky's only big-screen role

There are a number of mysteries surrounding this extraordinary film. One of them is the uncredited cameo of Konstantin Stanislavsky - the one and only theater director, developer of the Stanislavsky system. He supposedly appears some 35 minutes into the movie as the president of the National Bank, just for a couple of minutes.

The actor indeed resembles Stanislavsky, although he looks fatter and "rounder" than usual. Of course, the role requires that from him (a satire on capitalism), plus Stanislavsky survived a serious heart attack shortly before the filming. And yet, strangely enough, there has been no mention of this fact until recently on Russian forums.

Another mystery is the "lost" silent copy - the original one from 1930. The currently available version is the talkie one from 1935, with some scenes added and some - again, speculatively - deleted. Those included a number of scenes with Stanislavsky who was originally listed in the credits. This comes from someone who claims to have watched the 1930 copy back in the Soviet days.

You can decide for yourself whether it's him or not, the movie's all around Youtube. Of course, the 1930 version would've been a much better starting point.
